Launch
Teach For America San Diego was facing three concurrent challenges, the unexpected departure of a senior development director, a chief of staff on long term medical leave and the need to plan and execute two high-stakes, fundraising events that involved high profile national business leaders and donors. We were engaged by TFA to support the Executive Director and the leadership team to increase staff capacity in a vital role and to secure critical fundraising dollars through a combination of our management consulting and interim staffing services.
Engagement
Within the parameters of the budget, we developed a scope of work and contracted to provide interim staffing support at 10 hours a week for four months. This hybrid temporary position had specific areas of focus:
- The planning and execution of two high-profile, high-stakes fundraising events, and;
- Supporting the full team through their monthly and quarterly accountability and performance management systems.
We also tackled a major project vital to the organization’s sustainability, overhauling the fund development systems in close collaboration with the existing team. We outsourced the direct event management and project-managed the involvement of key stakeholders and donors throughout the planning and pre-ask phases of the campaign.
Result
The organization surpassed their annual revenue goals for the first time and the organization, as whole, outperformed their programmatic metrics due to the strong focus on accountability and performance.
